Students who earn 70 points in each category of the Torch Awards can receive the Ambassador Award
The 2009 Torch Awards Program is now open for the 2009-2010 year. Before beginning your online resume, read the 2009-10 Torch Awards Handbook. It contains all the details about 2009-10 changes, as well as detailed instructions. Once you are familiar with the handbook, log in to the online Torch Awards system and begin to work on your resume.

(Note: If you need to carry over activities from last year's resume, your advisor must add them in the Membership Registration System using the links that say "Import From Last Year's Torch Awards" or "Import Member from Another Chapter for Torch Awards" if they have not added you as a member yet, or "Import Torch Awards for a member that has already been added" if they have already added you as a 2009-2010 member.)

Important 2009-10 Changes

  1. Activity reviewers have “one-click” review available with check-boxes in the activity review area.
  2. Advisors can assign students the responsibility of reviewing and submitting resumes via the "Torch Award Reviewer" option in the member registration system.
  3. Each completed resume must be submitted online by an advisor or local reviewer using the "Submit" links that appear as students earn each award. Students will not be recognized if their completed resume is not officially submitted by their local advisor / local reviewer online by the appropriate deadline.

What are Torch Awards?

The Torch Awards program motivates students to get involved, serve their community and be recognized. For completing activities, recording them in their online resume and submitting them, students earn recognition on the local, regional, state and national level. The individual awards are as follows:

Torch Award Links

Executive

Awarded at the local chapter level, requiring 10 points in each of seven activity categories.

Diplomat

Statesman

Awarded at the state level, requiring 50 points in each of seven activity categories.

Ambassador

Awarded at the national level, requiring 70 points in each of seven activity categories.

What you'll need:

Your first priority should be downloading and reviewing The Torch Awards Handbook for 2008-09. Then, you can log on and start updating your ONLINE Torch Awards résumé. Your USER NAME is your BPA Member ID (your advisor has access to this through the membership registration system). Your PASSWORD, if not provided to you by your advisor, can be set by clicking here.

What advisors can do:

The review process will be improved for the coming year. This will include being able to approve activities more quickly, the ability to carry over students' activities from the previous year, and the ability to designate a student as an official reviewer. Specifics and details will arrive with the 2009-2010 Torch Awards Handbook this September. NOTE: You will need your BPA Member ID to work on your online Torch Awards résumé. Your advisor has access to this information through the membership registration system.
