"North Fayette BPA holds an annual Rock-A-Thon/lock in to raise money for the North Fayette Special Olympics and BPA Cents Counts program. BPA members and Special Olympians participate in several types of activities and games. Games include basketball, football, X-Box 360 challenges, hide–n-seek and Twister. The students watch movies, ate pizza and enjoyed each other’s company.  The local chapter raised a total of $863.50. The money was used to purchase t-shirts, warm up jackets and the rest will be donated to the Northeast Iowa Special Olympics to help support their state competition in Des Moines, IA.

"North Fayette BPA also sponsors a pep rally for the Special Olympians to send them off to the games at the UNI Dome, Cedar Falls, IA. The pep rally includes cheerleaders, pep band, games for the BPA members and Special Olympians and the presentation of the check. The North Fayette BPA chapter also travels with the Special Olympians to the UNI Dome to help with the opening ceremony and receive an award from the State."  --Samantha Streeter from North Fayette, West Union, IA

"Recently, I attended the SOMA Special Olympics Bowling Competition with a group of Business Professionals of America students that attend Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. The experience was new and emotionally fulfilling. The reward for us volunteers was “high-fiving” the bowlers after they got a spare or strike, or even if they just needed the support. The best part of the day was seeing them smile and enjoying themselves and the company of others. It feels great knowing that my school, and myself, have participated in such an astonishing community service program." --Pearl Monteiro from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School

"Before joining Business Professionals of America I was never involved or interested Special Olympics. BPA opened the door to me personally helping by volunteering and raising awareness for Special Olympics. I have now participated at the state Polar Bear Plunge for the past three years to raise money and awareness. Only the crazy plunge into the Atlantic in the middle of February for such an important cause. I look forward to participating again this year with more chapter members involved and even more money raised!" --Dara from Campus Community High School

Thank you to the members of Business Professionals of America! $1.00 from your purchase of an official 2009 National Leadership Conference registration enabled BPA to gift over $2600 to the National Special Olympics organization in Washington DC. This gift is in addition to the chapter and individual member gifts made to various Special Olympic organizations throughout the US. We hope to continue our national support efforts of Special Olympics in the future and encourage your support on the local level.
