2/22/2012 10:28:17 AM Hello BPA Members! I am back and working hard on providing you all with a great second semester of BPA on our way to reaching new heights at NLC 2012 in Chicago.
One of my big projects over the next few months will be selecting the winners of the 2012 BPA scholarships. The winners will receive money towards college as they pursue successful careers after BPA. I was a $1000 scholarship winner last year, and with BPA’s help, I was able to afford the college of my choice and pay for books. The scholarship is a great opportunity to be rewarded for all of your hard work in BPA. The winners will not only have participated in many of BPA’s activities, but they will have reached new heights in the organization by helping other members and embodying the true mission of Business Professionals of America. If you have not already, please fill out the scholarship application here.
I have also been hard at work organizing a leadership session, which will be presented at the NLC by the Secondary National Officer Team. The leadership session is titled, Poker Face, and it will help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses when working on a team. The presentation will be a fun, interactive experience as you bond with the National Officer Team and reach new heights as a leader in your everyday life. Make sure that when you register for NLC, you tell your advisor to sign you up for this session. You won’t want to miss it!
Lastly, I have been working on a committee with other officers to finalize details of the special event at NLC. This year’s special event will be held at Navy Pier and feature many activities for your whole chapter to enjoy. A DJ, state-of-the-art interactive games, and tons of prizes including iPads and a laptop. Plus, you will be able to experience all the other activities that Navy Pier has to offer. If you want to enter the special event an hour early to be first in line for all the activities and be entered into a special drawing for an iPad, register forBPA’s Walk for Special Olympics. This new event at NLC will raise awareness and donations for the Special Olympics as BPA members walk through downtown Chicago to the special event on Navy Pier. It will be a great opportunity to give back to a great cause, participate in a new NLC event, and gain access to the special event an hour early. Talk to your advisor about registering.
Beyond these projects, I am busy fulfilling other officer duties and being involved in school activities such PFLAG and other non-profits. I hope you all take advantage of these opportunities and continue to reach new heights as the year continues. I have faith that you will all be successful no matter what your goal may be.
Sincerely, Tommy Craven Secondary National Treasurer
