I pictured myself at this point and it feels truly amazing to be here welcoming all the talented BPA members who got me here. Thank you for electing me to represent all of you. As the new BPA year begins, I am sure you are busy recruiting members, participating in fall activities, planning events, preparing for competition, and everything that the new BPA year brings. I am also certain that there is something or will be something this year that you want to get out of BPA but sadly are hesitant to try. Maybe you want to talk to and meet lots of new people, maybe there's a service project you want to impliment, maybe you'd like to try a new event, or maybe you want to see yourself walking across the stage as Idaho Secondary State President. In three words I can sum up what you should do: JUST DO IT!

For anybody who knows me, I'm very quiet. I never thought that I could be loud or outgoing enough to run for state office, but I wanted it. I pictured myself walking across that stage as State President at least a hundred times. So I ran. Regardless of the outcome I knew the porcess would challenge who I was as a person and take me to the very limits of my comfort zone. I reached my goal, but even if I didn't, I did waht was supposed to be impossible for someone shy like me. I learned that nothing could limit me from succeeding and that if I wanted it, I could have it. The same goes for all of you.

So to all the BPA members:

When someone tells you you're too shy, give speeches in front of hundreds of people.

When you get told you're not outgoing, meet and make friends with hundreds of people across the state.

When you get told that you'll never understand your competitive event, become a state champion and represent Idaho on a national level.

When you get told as a freshman that you're not qualified to be president of your chapter, become president of  the entire state as a junior instead.

You'll go through life with people telling you who you are and what you're not, but what they tell you doesn't matter. What you tell yourself, means everything. And sadly, the person that's telling you that you can't, most often happens to be you. The only thing that can ever limit your success is you.

Tell yourself you can and watch what happens.
