"The conference was the culmination of a school year's worth of business education and training the members of the Lowell High School chapter of Business Professionals of America have received," said chapter advisor, Jill McNamara, who teaches in the Business Management & Finance Academy.  From their placement in the top five in their respective categories at the state level, Michael Doung, Emily Wilcox, Julian Rojas, Jackyie Cruz, Amanda Rosa, Meisang Hong and Robert DelGrosso competed in the WorkPlace Skills Assessment Program at the national conference.  Lowell High School was recognized as a Chapter of Distinction as well as a Qualifier in the BPA Cares Program for Marketing & Public Relations.  Gracelyann Cordero, Carlos Gonzalez, Mordecai Ebhohon, Melissa Graham, Cheymony Fennell and Sisowath Chea participated in the National Merit Scholar event.
Finally, Slovakian exchange student Simonka Urbanova completed the first ever Massachusetts entry for Entrepreneurship Exploration Award.  The award recognizes individual students who complete an extensive entrepreneur project.  With the assistance of Dancenergy owner Liza Tenczar, Simonka completed a variety of activities and documented her research for submission in March.  Simonka was recognized as one of the top five secondary students across the nation to complete this project!  Recognized at the Second General Session, Simonka was presented with a plaque from National President Sam Alexander.
The Lowell High School Chapter of BPA was assisted in the endeavor with the financial support from corporations, companies, and individuals from Greater Lowell including Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union, Longhorn Steakhouse, Francis Provencher Insurance Agency, Donahue Family Trust, The James L. Cooney Agencies, Greater Lowell Engineering Associates, Donna Leahey, Warren Muldoon, and Jon & Patricia Shepherd.  The 1826 School Store also was a major contributor to the funding of this experience!
Additionally, all Lowell members attending the
National Leadership Conference participated in the Walk for Special Olympics around the beautiful grounds of the Walt Disney World Resort totaling 1.2 miles.  LHS donated over $200 of the $5000 donation made to Special Olympics Florida.
