Members Promote BPA during BPA Week

          Contributed by Newton High School

BPA has a special week dedicated to the organization every year to allow members to share with other non-members. This year, in 2014, several activities were held the week of February 3 through the 7. Newton High School members decided to plan activities every day during lunch to raise awareness of Business Professionals of America to all of the students. Newton High's advisor Melinda Rangel and local officers planned Minute To Win It style games, created business trivia questions, and also had a jar full of pennies for students to guess the amount. Anyone that completed a game or had the correct answer to a question received a prize at the end of the week. Megan Regier, local Historian said, "I think that our activities not only showed how much fun BPA can be for members, but also how important it is for students to know the basics of the business field."

Many participated however, the unpredictable Kansas weather caused students to miss out on a few days of activities. A snow storm hit on Tuesday causing students to be released from school through Thursday. "Even though we did not get to use all of our activities that we had planned, I still think that students appreciated the activities and learned a lot about BPA," said State President and local Vice President Colton Aarstad. "We had several students that did not even know about the club but were interested in joining the next year." BPA members look forward to bringing in new members during the next school year and plan to participate in more recruiting activities to help the Newton High BPA Chapter grow even larger.
