The Business Professionals of America ~ Lowell Chapter participated in the State Leadership Conference held at the Sheraton Tara Hotel, Framingham.  Lowell High School chapter members competed against 15 other chapters from across Massachusetts including: Assabet Valley Regional High School, Marlborough High School, Tantasqua Regional, Taconic High, Waconah Regional, New Bedford Technical, South Shore Regional, Franklin County Technical, Greater Lowell, Natick High School, McCann Technical High School, Keefe Technical, Longmeadow High School and Bristol Plymouth Regional High School.  Business Professionals of America chapters allow students to participate as they prepare to learn, compete, and serve their way through competitions and recognition held at the state and national levels.

In early March, Lowell High BPA Chapter members participated in workshops, competed in both judged and written events, received recognition for special awards, ran for state office and received recognition for exemplary scores in competitive events.  Members participated in the Rice Bowl Challenge as part of the statewide initiative for students to improve their knowledge in a variety of subjects all while donating rice to needy children. Additionally, LHS members assisted the Tantasqua Chapter by creating cards for oversees troops, so that military members can send loved ones notes home while stationed away.  Lowell members contributed to the Massachusetts Special Olympics through the purchase of glow sticks.

Lowell High School was recognized as a Quality Chapter of Distinction; an organization recognition for adhering to set guidelines in following meeting protocol, member participation in various activities and chapter management.  Student members senior Meisang Hong, junior Josef Jusczak, and sophomore Narie Seng were recognized for service to the organization through the Torch Program and received Executive Torch pins.  Members elected and witnessed the swearing in of the 2015-/2016 State Officer Team.  For the first time in LHS history, a student successfully ran a campaign and was elected to office; sophomore Narie Seng will serve as the Secretary of the Massachusetts State Officer Team for 2015/2016.

Additional recognition was given to Meisang Hong, senior, who earned her spot to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California this May by successfully passing the BPA Merit Scholar Test.  This national test reviews students knowledge of Business Professionals of America and this is Meisang's third time completing this BPA knowledge based exam.  Additionally, sophomore Brittany Sollinger competed and placed Fourth in Extemporaneous Speech and placed Fifth in Parliamentary Procedures Event.  Lowell nearly swept the Parliamentary Procedures category with members senior Chummeng Soun placing Second, sophomore Mateus Siqueira placing Third and senior Malaysia Sophea Buth placing Fourth.  Finally, junior Devlin Higginbottom placed Fourth in Entrepreneurship with his business plan: Devlin's Candy Cart.  These students are eligible to participate in the National Leadership Conference in May in Anaheim, California.
