A letter from Texas BPA State Advisor Diana Weber

          BPA Family,
I just wanted to personally thank the BPA advisors and chapter members who have contacted me about how they can help our Texas BPA chapters that are in need. While the devastation is heartbreaking, the stories of neighbors helping neighbors have been wonderful.
At this time, the Texas coastline is reviewing damage as power is just now being restored to some of those areas. Some fared better than others but the devastation is unbelievable. Many coastal cities are a total loss. We do have several school districts that will not be able to recover. The schools are a total loss and the district is encouraging students to enroll where they have been evacuated to at this point.
The Houston area is still under water and as the flood waters recede, the clean up and the recovery will take a very long time. As the storm continues, many shelters are being flooded and supplies are running low.  Texans have rallied together and the "Cajun Navy" and "Redneck Rescue" teams have been in the Houston area doing what they can. The outpouring of help and resources has been wonderful and much appreciated.
How can your BPA chapter help? At this point, just be ready. I am hoping to hear from local chapter advisors who need help and we will partner with them soon. I have friends and family both at the coast and in the Houston area assisting with cleanup and rescue and they are working to find the best way to help. We hope to know more next week as water recedes, damages can be assessed and the real work of clean up can begin.
We appreciate the outpouring of support from our BPA family and will keep you posted as we work together.
