Thirty-one members of the Newton High School Business Professionals of America chapter traveled to Manhattan, KS, October 26 where they attended the BPA Fall Delegate conference at the KSU Student Union. Students attended a variety of leadership training sessions on topics including communication, teamwork, and goal setting. The sessions were conducted by the current BPA State officer team.

In addition to attending sessions, the students voted on graphic design entries that were competing to be named as the Kansas state trading pin and listened to speeches given by candidates running for this year's executive board. Levi Blaylock, NHS BPA chapter president, ran for an office on the board. He created a promotional display that explained his many BPA accomplishments and included pictures of his involvement in our chapter. Levi gave a two-minute speech and answered questions regarding BPA knowledge in front of the entire conference attendees. His theme of "Party Rock with Blaylock" was a conference hit and a favorite among the students. Levi was voted on by all the attending members and chosen in the top six candidates. The candidates then gave a second speech to a select group of voting delegates who determined which office they would hold. The 37 voting delegates then elected Levi to serve as our 2011-12 Kansas BPA president. Levi will represent Kansas at all state functions as well as be involved in the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL, in April.

Newton High School's BPA chapter has 67 members this year. These students are all enrolled in business classes and will compete in a variety of business and computer events throughout the year including Regionals, State and Nationals.
