          Students Attend Career Development Fair

The Newton High School BPA chapter received a unique opportunity to attend the Emporia State University Business Career Day for the third year in a row. On November 13, twelve members listened to a variety of speakers lecture on their respective field of business and the opportunities that their field has yet to come.

The Emporia State University Business Career Day is very similar to a live Kansas Career Pipeline. The students have the opportunity to listen to speakers talk about different areas of career and ask them questions regarding the specific field. The members were required to choose three sessions out of several to attend. Topics included Entrepreneurship, Career Exploration, Management Marketing, and Financial Careers. In the Management Marketing session, the students were given buyer or seller cards and participated in a buyer and seller product simulation. In the Entrepreneurship session, the students listened to Jeremy Russo talk about his Dynamic Disc business and how he started it as a college student and now sells to people all over the country.

The Newton High School Business Professionals of America chapter benefitted greatly from this experience. The Emporia State University Business Career Day helped many of the members understand what life in the “real world” will be like and gave them strategies to make their career choice benefit them the most. “It was a good experience to be opened up to real life business situations,” Desiree Corona said. "It gave me a good idea of what steps to take after high school to have a  more successful future." After the seminar concluded, the group enjoyed lunch at Pizza Ranch as a bonding activity before returning home.
