This year, advisors can sign up their students for the National Leadership Academy online during conference registration.

KICK IT IN® this year at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference. Plan on attending the BPA Leadership Academy and interact with student leaders from all over the U.S. learning how you can "make things happen."

Actions do speak louder than words and we'll be getting everyone actively involved in creating the kind of engaging, enthusiastic, experiential learning that's way better. than just "sitting and getting." Experience internships, interactive leadership team-building challenges, a professional leadership panel presentation, and so much more! All designed to help you shoot for success within BPA and in life so you can KICK IT IN and TAKE THE LEAD!

Program Objectives

  • Increase individual leadership competencies and how to relate them to real-life situations.
  • Focus on organizational leadership orientation and how to develop leadership in others.
  • Learn how to enhance personal leadership skills, improve self-awareness, respond appropriately at all times, model effective communication, encourage cooperation and collaboration.
  • Investigate leadership values including consciousness of self, ethical congruence and commitment to completion.
  • Participate in experiential hands-on activities in group, partner, and individual situations.
  • Become more reflective and learn from your own as well as other people's experiences.
  • Learn how to grow more leaders around you by sharing the trail with others and leaving a clear path for future leaders.

Intern Assignments

Complete the required four-hour intern commitment.

Wednesday May 5
Day 1 (1-5pm)
Develop the personal leadership needed to TAKE THE LEAD! Plus, learn first hand from a professional leadership panel of special guests.

Thursday May 6
Day 2 (8am-12noon)
Inspire the self-motivation within yourself and others when you return home and show others the way to really KICK IT IN!

Eligibility & Online Application Information

  • The National Leadership Academy is open to Secondary and Post-Secondary Divisions.
  • Each National Leadership Academy participant must register and attend the National Leadership Conference with a local chapter.
  • National level contestants in any contest other than open contests cannot enroll in the National Leadership Academy. In addition, open contest participation must be scheduled around the National Leadership Academy schedule.
  • There are 300 spaces available in the 2010 National Leadership Academy. 150 scholarships will be awarded for the National Leadership Academy. Spaces and scholarships are assigned on a first-submitted, first-approved basis, so get your application in early! The remaining 150 approved applicants will be assessed a $40.00 program fee.
  • Complete and submit your online application by April 2, 2010 for scholarship consideration.
  • Registration for the Leadership Academy and National Conference Intern is now found online as part of the conference registration. There is not a separate application for these programs this year. Simply add Leadership Academy and Intern options during the online registration process. The button for this is found next to each participant name once the participants have been registered.
  • Each participant must commit to:
  • Serve as a National Leadership Intern for a minimum of four hours during the National Leadership Conference.
  • Complete the Leadership Academy in its entirety. (Please schedule tours around the Leadership Academy schedule.)
  • Participate in after-conference activities via email and present leadership materials or serve as a leadership resource to your local chapter (as well as regional and state association if extended the opportunity).
