Who Is in the Audience? There is good news and bad news about who will be in your road show audience. The good news is that Americans in general are risk takers. It runs in our DNA. We are optimists who look for opportunities. Further, there are countless stories of initial public offerings in which the initial investors earned stratospheric returns on their investments. That’s why investors are so interested in IPOs. Another interesting fact is that the stock market can truly be said to have become part of the culture of the United States. Surveys show that more than 50% of Americans own common stock in one or more companies, either through direct purchases or through retirement, profit-sharing, and pension plans. How does all this relate to road shows? It tells you that Americans have a good history of investing in the stock market, and are favorably disposed to investing in new companies and ideas. However, these same conditions also present a challenge, which will be explained on the next page. |
