Speaking Skills & Your Business Goals Like it or not, in the real world, the CEO of a company is almost always required to be the public spokesperson. So developing good public speaking skills is important for attaining your business goals. There are two main purposes of an IPO road show:
Investors and analysts consider the CEO’s skill as a leader to be crucial for the success of a company. You have one shot at “wowing” investors. If you don’t make a good first impression, you probably won’t get their support for your IPO. They won’t waste time giving you a second chance. So what are the qualities investors want to see in you as a CEO when they are watching your road show? First of all, you must demonstrate that you are well-organized, confident, and able to handle any situation. This will be challenging, because no matter how much you rehearse, unplanned things happen in road shows. A computer glitch causes your screen to lock up and your PowerPoint won’t work. Or perhaps your CFO, who is supposed to deliver the last 5 minutes of the presentation, comes down with the flu and can’t be there. What do you do? |
