Lesson 2:

The Right Business
to Run the Race

Starting a business is a lot like running a race. It might be a NASCAR race, or it might be the New York Marathon. But no intelligent person ever runs a long-distance race without adequate preparation.

In Lesson 1, we stood at the starting gate and considered the pros and cons of getting into the race of entrepreneurship. Now, in Lesson 2, we will look at some of the hurdles or obstacles we might have to overcome along the way, and we will start creating a strategy for winning the race.

Remember, we still haven’t left the starting line yet — we are just checking our gear and tuning our engines. Our goal in this lesson is to size up the challenge and help you see what resources, talents, and abilities you have for running the race successfully.

So let’s get going!
