Data Match has been around since 1983 and is widely known throughout schools today. It’s a student fundraiser where other students fill out a diverse set of questions and the results are posted on a website. The results usually take about a week to process. Results are then sent to the school through the website. Boys and girls names then appear on other people’s Data Match sheet in order of compatibility.

Newton High School’s BPA decided to tackle this easy fundraising idea a few years ago with the idea it would be an easy and fun fundraiser. The fundraiser brought in enough money every year after that, and  it is almost a tradition now at Newton. BPA holds the fundraiser every year.

This year Data Match decided to go green by not sending every student’s results to the particular school, instead the school now prints the results after a student buys their print-out. Newton High BPA is selling the results during fall homecoming week in hopes of helping student’s find a date to the homecoming dance.

Most students find it amusing in finding out who they match with. BPA sells the results at lunch for $3 and the students get two results; one with fellow students in their own grade and one with students from other grades. Newton High BPA anticipates profitable sales this year from the Data Match fundraiser and also among other fundraising ideas.
